Joseph "Al"
Bonsant
October 13, 1934 – February 22, 2022
Bonsant, Joseph "Al" Alphee Dollard – age 87 passed away peacefully, Tuesday, February 22 in his home with his wife Betty by his side. Born in Edmundston, New Brunswick, he was the son of the late Adelard and Christine (Therrien) Bonsant. Known to everyone as Al, he and his wife Betty settled in Elmsdale, Nova Scotia after he retired from the Military. Al was very proud to have served in the Canadian Forces for 29 years. They had a lovely property in Elmsdale where they enjoyed planting a vegetable garden and many flower gardens. Al loved to feed the squirrels and often showed his visitors how they ate right out of his hand. Al and Betty moved to Greenwood Square, Nova Scotia almost three years ago to be closer to their daughter Kim and her husband Reggie. Al and Betty loved to go to the Legion in Enfield, and then in Kingston to play pool and have some beers with friends. Al had many health issues in the past few years, the worst being dementia. The family would like to thank the VON who provided excellent care to Al in the comfort of his own home. Al loved his sweets, his car, his cats, and fresh cut flowers from Kim's gardens. He loved to look at pictures of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Al is survived by his wife Betty, his brother Louis Bonsant, his sisters Louisette Thibodeau and Charlotte Henderson, his children Des (Bill) McInnis, Kim (Reggie) Leonard, Grant (Jenny) Bonsant, Garry (Sabine) Bonsant, and Christine (Tery) Kazakoff; his grandchildren Scott Leonard, Samantha (Scott) Foote, Tessa (Andrew) Leonard, Kyle McInnis, Chelsea Bonsant, Connor, Colton, and Chiara Bonsant, and his great grandchildren Dylan and Desmond Leonard, Grace and Bella Tilley, Zander and Jaxon Foote. Besides his parents, Al was predeceased by his brothers Charles Bonsant and Jean Louis Dube, his son Craig, and his grandson Logan. A Celebration of Life will take place on Monday, March 7 at 2 p.m. in the Kingston Legion. In lieu of flowers donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Online guest book may be signed by visiting www.middletonfunealhome.com .
Al Bonsant
You joined the Military
when you were just nineteen
You left home and grew up fast,
how hard that must've been.
Then you met your wife Betty,
such a beautiful dancer!
You asked her out on a date,
and you wouldn't take NO for an answer.
You were blessed with six children,
you had a loving wife.
You loved to play pool with friends,
and you had a good life.
You had some grandchildren,
I think that there were nine.
And then six great grandchildren,
you thought that was just fine!
All because of that one date,
which really started your life.
Aren't you glad that Betty
became your loving wife?
Your last few years were hard,
and your days were long.
Then your heart just stopped,
suddenly you were gone.
If tears could build a stairway,
and memories a lane.
I would walk right up to Heaven
and bring you back again.
No farewell words were spoken,
No time to say "Goodbye".
You were gone before I knew it,
and only God knows why.
