Obituary

BEATTIE, Joyce Merrie - age 88, of Windermere, Kings Co., passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, in Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown. Born in Berwick, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late Charles and Blanche (Ward) Ramey. Joyce was always a hard worker, in early years on the family farm and then becoming a hairstylist and business woman. She started Valley Hairstylist in Berwick and later with Helen Kervin owned and operated Ker-Bea Fashions in Berwick. Joyce was always active and devoted to her community, and along with her late husband were two of the founding members of the Windermere Community Hall. She was a long-time member of the Berwick United Church and active in the U.C.W. Joyce was well known for her knitting and making apple pies. She was loved by her family and many friends. Surviving are sons, Brian (Wanda) Beattie, East Dalhousie; Bruce (Pam) Beattie, Windermere; grandchildren, Martin (Holly), Lynette (Dan) and Tricia (Grant); great-grandchildren, Drew and Mackenzie; brother, Keith (Jean) Ramey, Windsor; special niece, Sandra (Lee) Lonergan - Obritsch, Bridgewater; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James K. "Jim" Beattie; sisters, Pearl (Hartley) Lonergan and a sister, Ruthie in infancy; step-mother, Viola Ramey. Visitation will take place from 6-8 p.m., Sunday evening in Berwick United Church, 240 Commercial St., Berwick, from where the funeral service and reception will take place at 2 p.m., Monday, August 14. Rev. Tom Woods and Pastor Randy Hiltz officiating, with interment in Berwick Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations in Joyce's memory may be made to the Windermere Community Hall, the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada or to a charity of ones choice.
