Palmer
June 25, 1942 – March 29, 2024
PALMER, Juanita Elizabeth ~ Age 81, Berwick, Kings Co., passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on June 25, 1942, in New Germany, Lunenburg Co., she was the daughter of the late Roy F. and Nellie S. (Seamone) Zwicker.
Juanita was raised in Berwick, graduating from Berwick High School and furthered her studies in Business Office training. Her career included roles in the business office at M.W. Graves Ltd and in the Recreation Department of Grand View Manor. As her family grew, she stayed at home raising her children and supporting the family farm.
Juanita was deeply committed to serving her community. While living in Morristown, she actively participated in the Morristown Baptist Church, holding various positions including Superintendent of Sunday School and leader of CGIT. She was also a dedicated member of the West Kings District High School's PTA and active in her children's activities.
Later in life, upon returning to Berwick, Juanita's passion for community service continued. She played an integral part in various volunteer organizations. She was a longtime dedicated member of S.O.A.R. as a Board Member integral in its organizational structure development, as a member of the PR Committee and as a Peer Supporter. She was a member of Berwick United Church including Secretary of the Board of Stewards. In 2018, Juanita moved to Fundy Villa where she identified a need for resident engagement and entertainment. Taking the initiative, she organized numerous activities and events, enhancing the quality of life for the residents. From movie nights and live performances to annual events such as the Remembrance Day Service, New Year's Eve gathering and summer corn boil, Juanita's efforts brought joy and companionship to those around her. Determined to address the need for more physical fitness initiatives at Fundy Villa, Juanita applied for and was awarded a Provincial grant that brought chair yoga to the residents and most recently, she secured a leader for resistance band exercises for the Fundy Villa residents.
Despite her many endeavors, Juanita always made time for cherished friendships. She remained connected with her fellow Berwick High School classmates, who she fondly referred to as "the BHS girls," gathering annually to share stories and laughter over a meal. Juanita's legacy of generosity and community spirit will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Juanita will be deeply missed by her loving family, including her son, Bradley Palmer, Morristown; daughter, Susan Stokes, Morristown; granddaughters, Sara Stokes (Jeramy MacDonald), Port Hawkesbury; Katelyn Stokes, Truro; great grandchildren, Margaret and John Dougald MacDonald, Port Hawkesbury; brother, Roland Zwicker (Margaret), Berwick; sister, Marjorie Anderson, Halifax; several nieces and nephews.
