Obituary

LARSEN, Karen Lorraine - 49, Halifax, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at home. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of Melvin Harrison "Mel" and Althea Jean "Allie Jean" (Timmins) Larsen, Halifax. Karen was a graduate of St. Mary's University, with a B.A. Degree in Arts and a Minor in Religious Studies. She was a member of the Birch Cove Baptist Church, Halifax, also serving as a Trustee, was the Coordinator of the Prayer Line and had taught classes at the Daily Vacation Bible School. In 1988, Karen attended the Baptist Youth World Conference in Scotland. She had worked for the Metro Help Line for 10 years, was the Chairperson of the Access-A-Bus and was always involved in community events and was well-known for her ever-present smile. She was an avid Toronto Blue Jays fan. Besides her parents, Karen is survived by a sister, Patti Lynne (Stuart) Walker, Brights Grove, Ont.; brother, Darryl Melvin (Melanie) Larsen, Fort Smith, N.W.T.; nieces, Brooke and Trinity; nephew, Eric; special aunt, Lynette (Earl) Dillon, Mira. She was predeceased by grandparents, Lloyd and Jean Timmins (Waterville); Archibald and Hazel Larsen (South Bar); uncle, James Rupert (BettyMarie) Timmins; cousin, Reginald James Timmins. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. There will be a Memorial Service for Karen at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 18, in Birch Cove Baptist Church, 50 Donaldson Ave., Halifax. Rev. John Wilton and Rev. Dr. David Watt officiating, with a reception to follow. Interment service to take place the following afternoon (Friday) at 2:00 p.m., in the Berwick Cemetery, Main St., Berwick. Family flowers only, donations in her memory may be made to the Bayside Camp or to the Halifax West Ecumenical Food Bank.
