Karen Marie Porter, 61, of Lawrencetown, Annapolis County, passed away peacefully at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, on November 16, 2025, after a 23-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Karen was the beloved wife of George Porter and cherished daughter of Alden and Bertha J. (MacRae) Winott. George and her mother were her constant support and companions throughout Karen's long and courageous battle.
Karen is also survived by her brother, Stephen (Cindy) Winott, Fredericton, NB; sister Lori-Ann (Pat Bouffard) Winott, Perth, Ontario; brother-in-law, Blair Porter (Cathy), Kingston, NH; and sisters-in-law Lesley MacDonald, Granville Centre and Nancy (Richard) Illsley, North Williamston. Karen is also survived by her mother-in-law, Shirley Porter, Lawrencetown and nieces and nephews: Darcy Sampson (Logan Fletcher), Jordan Porter, Caitlin (Sean) Kates, Morgan (Alec) Chenier, Alex (Chelsea) Illsley, Patrick (Meghan) Illsley, Adam Winott and Erin (Chris Cornect) Winott as well as numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, and great nieces and nephews. Karen's family and friends will greatly miss her.
Karen was predeceased by her father, Alden Winott; father-in-law, W.L. Porter; and brother-in-law, Wayne MacDonald.
Karen will be fondly remembered by her customers at Tim Hortons, Middleton, where she worked for a number of years and, prior to that, clients at Middleton Veterinary Clinic.
Karen and George were co-owners of G&K Farms where Karen was a partner with George, tending to their animals and helping with all aspects of their farm.
Karen was an avid animal lover and leaves behind her beloved dogs, Tanner and Heidi and several cats. Karen was devoted to helping all manner of injured and stray animals, be they fur or feather, and saved many over the years.
Karen was also a lover of all things Grinch, wrestling, and reading.
The family would like to thank Patricia Chow, Karen Ashcroft, and the palliative care team; the chemotherapy and Medical Ward A staff at Valley Regional Hospital; and the various EMTs for their dedicated support.
A visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, November 21, and a funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 22 at the Middleton Funeral Home with a family interment at Fairview Cemetery.
