Hartlen, Kenneth Clifford "Ken" – 83, of Greenwood, NS passed away Thursday, July 17, 2025 in the QEII Infirmary, Halifax following complications from a massive heart attack. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Clifford and Gertrude "Marion" (Appleby) Hartlen.
After spending 30 years serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force, Ken became Department Manager for K-Mart, then worked as a commissionaire for several years. Ken loved his cars especially the old ones and a fanatic about keeping them clean. He was a great tease and jokester and enjoyed a good game of darts or Euchre. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed spending time in his workshop. Ken had a love for bald eagles as can be seen when entering his home.
Surviving is his wife of 50 years, Faye (Varner); daughters, Susan (Dan) Clark, Buckhorn, ON; Tracey (Jules) Landry, Clarence Creek ON; Rhonda Marley, Toronto ON; sons, Michael Flynn, Mill Bay, BC; Kenneth "Sean" Hartlen, Digby; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brother, Ron (Sheila) Hartlen, Wilmot; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Carol Chisholm. Ken will be sadly missed by many great friends that he made throughout the years.
The family would also like to thank Janet and her team from Palliative Care and the VON. Also a big thank you to the doctors and nurses at QEII Halifax Infirmary for their excellent care.
A Legion Tribute Service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 in Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 98 Kingston. Postulant Wade Seymour officiating. A private family interment will take place in Church Grove Cemetery, Melvern Square following the reception. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to Hope for Wildlife.
