Laurence Edward Caldwell, 86, Paradise NS peacefully passed into the loving embrace of Jesus surrounded by his family at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville NS on 12 November 2024. Son of the late Stewart and Margaret (Taylor) Caldwell, Laurence worked many jobs in his life-time. Some of these included farming for Spurgeon Messenger, lumberman for J.H. Hicks, canning for Graves and Scotian Gold, freight shunting for Thompsons Transfer, construction for a number of companies helping to build the Lawrencetown School, Greenwood Mall, Annapolis Royal causeway and the Waterville Hospital to name a few, clearing bush and trees for NS Light and Power, and 18 years at United Elastic (Britex) ending as factory foreman. In past years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, playing darts at the legions, playing and watching baseball (especially the Blue Jays), and playing cards and ring toss. Since losing his left leg in 2022, Laurence was confined to a wheelchair and spent a lot of time reading and watching westerns on TV. Laurence is survived by his wife Nancy (Healy) of 63 years; daughter Donna (Tim) Burke, Moncton NB; sons Blair Caldwell, Paradise NS and Andrew (Nora) Caldwell, Bridgetown NS; grandchildren Tyler (Ashley) Taylor, Summerside PE, Jason (Maria) Whalen, Moncton NB, Philip (Megan Butland) Whalen, Union Bay BC, Ashley Giffin, Bridgetown NS, Brandon Gregory, Middleton NS and Kayla Caldwell, Bridgetown NS; great-grandchildren Shawn Whalen, Moncton NB, Zachary and Brendon Taylor, Summerside PE; and Caroline and Rylan Giffin, Nictaux NS; brother Bernard, Centrelea NS; four nephews and one niece, Besides his parents, he is predeceased by brothers Donald and Leon. In keeping with Laurence's wishes, cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held Sunday, November 17, 2024 at Centrelea Baptist Church Cemetery at 1:00PM with Rev. Dr. Steven Hopper officiating. Donations in Laurence's memory are requested to be made to the Canadian Lung Association or charity of your choice.
