Laurie Milton Griffin

Laurie Milton “Skip” Griffin ~ Age 71, of Weltons Corner, (Aylesford), Kings Co., N.S., left this world after a life well lived and love all around him. After a terminal diagnosis he made the brave decision to leave us while allowing us the utmost honour of being by his side. Skip lived with strength and courage and never let anything take away his love of his family, draft horses, dogs, hunting, fishing and being with friends. He continued to do what he could for as long as he was able.

Born in Wolfville, N.S, he was the son of the late Laurie Edward and Julia Justine (Weatherbee) Griffin. He was predeceased by his sister, Brenda Faye Griffin in October of 2025. He and Brenda had a bond that was beautiful to see. He was her biggest cheerleader and protector. He made sure she knew her big brother was always there, losing her was very difficult.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 17 years the former Deborah Lynn “Debbie” MacDonald. His love for her and her wellbeing was always forefront in his mind. right up until his last breath. He also leaves behind his children, Shannon Lynn (Denis) Pepin, Hearst, Ontario; Keisha Schaeffer (Blair), Aylesford; Nathan Scheaeffer, Aylesford; Leanne (Connor) Cogswell; sister, Jo-Anne (Doug) MacDonald, Sydney, Cape Breton; sister, Joy “Jodi” (Donnie) Ward, Nicholsville (Aylesford); nephews, Brad & Owen; nieces, Michelle & Erin; grandchildren, Ethan, Logan, Madeline, Everly, and his newest treasure, Millie. Skip also left behind his good friend of many years, Jimmy McBride. Who was always ready for an adventure in the truck with his friend.

Skip started his working life right after high school, taking a job on a gypsum mine boat, bound for Jamaica. He always returned with stories to share. In 1975 at age 19, he joined the Canadian Armed Forces as a Military Police Officer. With 25 years and many postings one which included CFB Lahr in Germany, he finished his career at CFB Greenwood as Sgt Laurie M. Griffin CD (retired). His time in the service was very important to him and he served with pride.

During his pastime he spent most of his life in a ring at an exhibition, whether it be announcing, pulling his draft horses or working the rodeo, most knew him from over the speakers. After retiring, Skip worked a variety of jobs, some including sales of equipment for Brandt and transporting RV’s for Bluenose RV. Skip was his happiest when the truck wheels were turning. When his real retirement hit, the love for dogs flourished, he spent most weekends all over the province and in the U.S. competing and running his dogs in dog trials with his kennel club, this club brought joy and laughter to Skip, right up until he passed, declaring his dog, Bear as a national champion. The men in this group were very cherished by him and he thought the world of them.

His greatest legacy will be his kindness, and his great sense of humour. He gave freely, helped anyone who needed it and never ask for anything in return. His generosity and willingness to lift others up left a lasting impression on all who knew him. His loss will be felt by many.
