Obituary

MacDONALD, Lawrence Everett-- It is with great sadness that the family of Lawrence (Bubs) MacDonald announce his death, aged 86, on Sunday, September 2, 2012 in the Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII Halifax. Known to all for his love of music, Lawrence was never happier than when playing the violin. Born in Bartibogue, NB August 1, 1926 to Wilfred and Laura (Mahoney), he was one of 13 children. Though he grew up in the Depression, Bubs often spoke of his childhood as a time of great happiness and excitement. He served in the Canadian Army as a young man, and after de-enlistment found work picking apples in the Annapolis Valley. Later, he worked for several decades as a heavy-equipment driver at CFB Greenwood and was a member of the Melvern Square United Baptist Church. His ability to play any instrument that came into his hands was a delight to his family, and in recent years he enjoyed playing with the Annapolis Valley String Band. He will be remembered as a dedicated gardener, fine cook, good carpenter, and true gentleman. Bubs is survived by his wife Patricia (Lightfoot) Grand View Manor, Berwick, children Karl, Bridgetown; Anthony (Karen Marr) Edmonton, AB; Christopher (Karen), Nanaimo, BC, Jocelyn (Todd) Cormier, Moncton, NB and Darlene (Randy) Fitch, East Kingston. Sisters Margaret (Leslie) Beckett, Hamilton, ON; Loretta (Clarence) King, Bartibogue, NB and Joanne (Elison) Russell, Bartibogue, NB. Brothers Elbridge, Hamilton, ON; John (Lynn), Bartibogue, NB; George (Vicky), Bartibogue, NB; Thomas (Betty Anne), Hamilton, ON. Grandchildren Steven Allan, Lucas, Evan and Dustin Fitch, Leah and Sean MacDonald and one great grandchild Mattea. He was predeceased by brothers Gerald, Eugene "Gene", Roy and William "Billy" and sister Alice; sister in law Audrey and brother in law Frank. Special thanks to the staff of the Dept. of Veteran's Affairs and the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Veteran's Unit, QEII Hospital. Cremation has taken place and by request, no visitation. A Royal Canadian Legion tribute, followed by a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5th at the Melvern Square United Baptist Church, Rev. Sharon Budd officiating. Interment will be in Church Grove Cemetery, Melvern Square. A reception to follow in the church annex. Donations in memory may be made to the Melvern Square United Baptist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448. An online guest book may be signed by visiting www.middletonfuneralhome.com
