AKER, Leslie Owen ~ 79 years old, of Cambridge, Kings Co., passed away in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, on Saturday, October 17th., 2020. He was born in Berwick to the late Lloyd and Lois (Best) Aker. Leslie grew up in Harbourville and married Carol Dickie of Canady Creek. While working at M.W. Graves Ltd. in Berwick in the daytime, he went to night school and got his carpentry license. Leslie left his factory job behind to become a contractor, building homes all over Kings County. In retirement years, they opened Aker's Gift Shop in Gold River and enjoyed a dozen years travelling and keeping shop. After celebrating over 50 years of marriage, Carol passed away in 2013, and he eventually married Kitty. Though they didn't have much time after he was diagnosed with leukemia, he enjoyed the music jams all over the Valley and Kitty's cooking. Leslie is survived by wife, Katherine Coleman Aker and her sons, Sean (Pam) and Scott (Loretta) and their children, Liam, Emma, Jacob, Drew, and Kayleigh. His daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Ann and David Herman, Kentville, grandchildren, Rubybeth (Tyler), Somerset and Jeremiah, Halifax; Lauri and Warren Jones, Meadowvale, grandchildren, Lauri, Florida, Nathaniel (Courtney), Kingston, Emilie (Robert), Meadowvale, Evelyn (Zach), Florida, Samuel, Alabama, Warren, Middleton, Shirley, Florida, Lemuel, Daniel, Sally, Seth, Michael, and Virginia, Meadowvale; eight great grandchildren, Declan, Sophie, Harrison, Coraline, Athena, Caralyn, Laurel, and Hudson. Also surviving him is his brother, John (Freda) Aker, Coldbrook; several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his sister, Ramona Mapplebeck of Aylesford. A private family graveside service took place at 2:00 p.m., Saturday October 24, in East Black Rock Cemetery, with Rev. Warren Jones officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory can be made to the Black Rock Cemetery Fund. The family would like to thank Medical A at Valley Regional Hospital for their great care and compassion.
