BALCOM, Lewis Freeman – Age 85 of Middleton formerly of Nictaux passed away Saturday, October 7, 2017 in the Annapolis Community Health Centre, Annapolis Royal, NS. Born in Middleton he was a son of the late Royal and Bertha (Wynott) Balcom. Lewis had many different jobs during his working career including being a cook at CFB Greenwood and later with Loris Connell Motors. In his earlier years, he enjoyed outside activities including, hunting and fishing. Lewis was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for many years. He was an avid bingo player and most of all he loved his family. Lewis is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, the former Beverly O'Neil; daughters, Annie "Nancy" (Dave) Thompson, Grande Prairie, AB; Cheryl "Sherry" (Randy) Gallant, Ponoka, AB; Juanita Balcom (Craig Bent), Nictaux; sons, Wayne (Kathy) Balcom, Parkers Cove; Brian (Anne Marie) Balcom, Middleton; Jeff (Kathy) Balcom, Nictaux; Thomas (Mona) Balcom, Melvern Square; Kevin Balcom, Middleton; Johnny (Patricia) Balcom, Nictaux; sister, Judy Balcom (Tom Uhlman) , Torbrook; sister-in-law; Olga Balcom, Middleton; brothers, Donald (Karen), London, ON; James "Jimmy" (Betty) Balcom, Thedford, ON; Roy (Susan ) Balcom , Grande Prairie, AB; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Lewis was predeceased by his daughter, Vicky; sister, Katherine (Henry) Prall; brothers, Chester Balcom and Russel Balcom. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 12, in the Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown with Rev. Bill McLeod officiating. A reception will follow at the Nictaux & District Fire Hall, Highway 10, Nictaux, beginning at 2:00 p.m., and everyone is welcome. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to Diabetes Canada. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., 902-825-3448.
