BOATES, Lillian Fern – age 74 of Melvern Square, NS passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Melvern Square, she was a daughter of the late William and Lyda (Andrews) Carter. Lillian loved harvest season; working on farms, picking berries and being in the fields and orchards. She enjoyed the outdoors,especially hunting and fishing. In high school, she was the Canadian Track and Field Champion for high jump. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her longtime friend and companion, Margaret Murray, Windsor; daughter, Janice Boates, Kingston; son, Glen (Shelley) Boates, North Kingston; sisters, Mary Lois "Sis" (Tom) Coolen, Belleville, ON; Wilma Jean "Billie" Brown, Moshers Corner; Carol Lee (Joseph) Crouse, Melvern Square; grandchildren Andrea Laura Banks (Ryan Wood), Greenwood; Tom Boates (Felicia Carson), Halifax; Teri Boates (Alex Stover), Halifax and great granddaughter Abigail Lily Wood. A heart felt thank you to Tracey Corkum, Lyle Crosby, and son Brandon for graciously taking our mom into your home, and for all your personal care and compassion. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, August 11, 2017 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448 with Rev. Libby Amirault officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. Private family interment will be in Church Grove Cemetery, Melvern Square.
