Obituary

Linda Elliott

July 5, 1940 – October 13,2025

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our cherished Mother, Linda Madeline Elliott on Monday, October 13, 2025 in the QEII in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Born to Douglas and Gertrude Thurber of Freeport Nova Scotia, she was the second eldest in the family of 12. She grew up in Freeport and lived most of her life there and it was the place she always called "HOME." She worked at various places over the years, including the local fish plant, canteen, MacIntyre's store, Riteway, Sears, and the one everyone remembers most, Postmaster in Freeport. She was very involved in the Village and was an avid volunteer. Linda was the Village Commissioner, a member of the Rebecca Lodge, a member of Freeport Baptist Church, the Church Choir, Ladies' Auxiliary for both the Legion and the Freeport Fire Hall, the Women's Institute, as well as a Girl Guide Leader, a Sunday School teacher, and a participant in the Seniors Group at the Manor. She was a huge supporter of the Canadian Cancer Society, and as she was a three-time Cancer Survivor herself, she walked every year to raise money for the cause. A fashion enthusiast, you would never run into Linda unless she was dressed impeccably!! A caring, generous, and kind lady, Linda was known for her great personality and sense of humor. She loved to travel, knit, sew, bake, garden, shop, and spend time with family and friends. A perfect day for Mom was driving to Digby with a friend or family member to go to Frenchy's to see what treasures she may find! She was very family focused, and loved being a Mom, Nannie, and especially "Great Nannie Linda" which was her favorite title of all! She was predeceased by her parents, her two sons, Laurie and Randy, brother Dale, and sisters, Marge and Mary. She is survived by her daughters, Kim Pitts (Richard) and Bev Roebuck (Gary);  longtime partner, Maurice Soucie; sisters, Thelsa Halliday (Tiny), Vicky Outhouse (Daniel), Trudy Thurber, Dawn Thurber, Jane Grey (Jesse), Luanne Titus (Randall); brothers, John Thurber (Kathy), Brian Thurber; grandchildren, Laura Pitts (Josh), Jesse Barnaby (Judy), Kevin Pitts (Stephanie), Emily Allen (Nick), Paige Barnaby, Alyssa Wescott (Jared); great granddaughters, Rose, Ariel, Annie, and Juliet. She will be deeply missed by all of those who had the privilege of knowing her. In keeping with Linda's wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2026 in Freeport Baptist Church with Pastor Craig Glavin officiating. Interment will be in Hilltop Cemetery. Donations in Linda's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimers Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Online guest book may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
