BURTON, (Corbett), Lorraine Gladys - It is with both shock and awe that the Burton Family announces the passing of their grandmother, mother, sister, niece, and cherished friend, Lorraine Burton on Wednesday, November 16, 2011, in Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville. Just a couple of short months ago, Lorraine was visiting with family and friends, playing a few rounds of golf every week, and having the time of her life. Suddenly, she was thrown into a seven-week battle with cancer. With love from all of us who were blessed to know her, Lorraine deserves the highest badge of merit for her tests of strength, courage, and stamina while engaging in trench warfare against this devastating, deplorable disease, an epidemic that she ardently raised funds for to help eradicate. This remarkable woman has not only shown us how to live a meaningful life, and shown us how to fight the fight, but she has also served as an inspirational guide on how to let life go with dignity and with grace. Lorraine will remain forever in our hearts. Lorraine has been predeceased by her grandparents, Everett and Annie (Lockhart) Redden (of Kingston) and by her parents, Murray and Effie (Redden) Corbett. Lorraine's father was from South Alton and Lorraine's mother was from Kingsport. Lorraine has been predeceased by her brothers, George Corbett and Clifford Corbett. Lorraine has also been predeceased by her husband, Ronald Burton and her son, Robert Burton. Lorraine is survived by siblings, Audrey (Corbett) Bezanson, Waterville; Mary (Corbett) Sawler, North Alton; Cecil Raymond Corbett, Grimsby Ont. Lorraine is also survived by a close family friend, Bill Stegeman, Chappell NE. Lorraine is survived by children, Roxana (Burton) Bennett, Vancouver B.C.; Donna Burton, Kingston; Edward (Valerie) Burton, Camrose Alta.; and James (Teri) Burton, North Bay Ont. Lorraine is also survived by grandchildren, Samantha Burton, Edmonton Alta,; Alexandra Burton, North Bay Ont.; and Brittany Burton, Lethbridge Alta. Lorraine was born on March 31, 1935 in South Alton. She was brought up in Kingston and spent the majority of her childhood years in Morden, by the Bay of Fundy. She learned the guitar at an early age and enjoyed music throughout her life. At the time of her passing, Lorraine was studying the mandolin. After graduating from school, Lorraine trained and taught as a teacher in the Nova Scotia education system. Later, she joined the military. Her first posting was in Trenton Ont. where she met her husband Ron, originally from Glace Bay, who was also in Trenton serving his first military posting. Ron and Lorraine spent their lives in the military on bases in Germany and in Canada, with their last posting at CFB Cold Lake, Alta. in 1971. Ron and Lorraine were snowbirds and travelled to California during the winters to meet up with friends and play golf. Once they were both permanently retired in their early 50s, Ron and Lorraine bought a fifth wheel and travelled around North America. They learned to live life to the fullest with no regrets. The Burton Family will hold a graveside service in Camrose, Alta in 2012. Lorraine will be celebrated and set to rest in peace along side her husband Ron. The Family would like to thank everyone for their kind support and prayers. On-line guest book may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
