Mae Marie
Macnaughton
August 3, 1923 – September 26, 2022
MacNaughton (LeBlanc) Mae Marie – Age 99 of Digby passed away peacefully, Monday, September 26, 2022, in Tideview Terrace, Digby. She was born, August 3, 1923, in Petit-Ruisseau, Digby County.
Mae was predeceased by her husband, Stewart MacNaughton, parents Willie and Neomise (Lombard) LeBlanc and siblings Adele (Fidelis) LeBlanc, Wilfred (Frances) LeBlanc, Leo LeBlanc and Elie LeBlanc (who was killed in action during WW II at Juno Beach).
Mae's parents died when she was young, and her beloved older sister Adele took on the care of the family and Mae in particular. Mae left home to work in Halifax as a secretary. When she married Stewart in 1952, she left her job to become a full-time homemaker. Together Mae and Stewart would move to Wolfville, Avrida (Que.) where son, Doug joined their family, St. John (NB), Digby, Wallace and Halifax. They returned to Digby when Stewart was diagnosed with ALS.
Mae was a lifelong member of the St. Patrick's Church in Digby, the Digby Garden Club and the Digby General Hospital Women's Auxilary. In addition to being a proud homemaker, Mae was an avid bridge player. Mae and her family enjoyed meeting up with their many friends and family during camping seasons at Hubbards Beach and Pictou. During these times Mae, Stewart and Doug had many sailing adventures in their little bluenose boat.
Mae will be remembered as a kind, quiet and gentle soul who devoted her life to her family.
Mae is survived by her son, Douglas (Melanie) MacNaughton; grandchildren, Tom and Molly MacNaughton; many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Digby/Clare Home Support Agency and the VON for their support, allowing Mae to remain at home for so long (until age 98!). Thank you also to the staff at Tideview Terrace for the care they took of Mae during her brief stay.
Cremation has taken place. There is no visitation or service at this time. A family interment will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery, Church Point at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free: 1-855-825-3448.
Donations in Mae's memory may be made to the Digby/Clare Home Support Agency or to the Victorian Order of Nurses. The online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
