WENTZELL, Malcolm Joseph "Mac"- 93yrs of Brickton, went to be with his precious Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 6, 2014 lovingly surrounded by his family. Born in Brickton, he was a son of the late Heman and Julia (Corkum) Wentzell and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mac was a veteran of the Second World War. He enlisted into active service on November 6, 1940 and began with the 10th Search Light Battery Artillery 3rd Division of the Canadian Army. In 1943, he transferred to Camp Borden, Ontario in the Army Service Corp Transport as driver and gunner. Later in 1943 on Christmas Day he left for overseas and was transported to Aldershot, England. When the war ended, Mac remained overseas with the Occupation Force serving in France, Belgium and the Netherlands. In 1946, he returned home arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax. After returning home, Mac began with Scotian Gold, drove school bus, he was employed with MacKenzie Cold Storage, Middleton and later retired after 28 years as a driver with Irving Oil Limited. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 112 Lawrencetown and was a founding member of the Lawrencetown Male Choir. Mac was a member and honourary deacon of the Lawrencetown United Baptist Church where he also served as head usher. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, the former Clare Fritz, to whom he was her best friend and mentor; his daughter, Beverley (Alan) Bent, Bridgetown; his sons, Gary (Marcia) Wentzell, Brickton; Brian (Sandra) Wentzell, Bedford; his grandchildren, Holly Wentzell (Craig Young); Melissa (Gary) Marshall; Paul (Jennifer) Wentzell; Amanda (Maurice) Bent-Colpitts; Robyn Bent; Hannah Wentzell; Alison Wentzell; great-grandchildren, Amelia, Jacob, Caden, Lyla and Ryland and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Nellie; brothers, Guy, Perley, Harry, John, Simeon, Chipman and great-grandson, Ethan. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service and reception will be held 2:00PM Monday, March 10, 2014 in the Lawrencetown United Baptist Church with Rev. Patty Beals officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown. Donations in memory may be made to the Lawrencetown United Baptist Church or to the charity of your choice.
