Malcolm Peter Ogilvie

It is with great sadness that we share on July 31, 2026 our dear father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend passed away at Valley Regional Hospital. His 96 years traversed a wide array of life and work experiences, his most treasured being, his four sons. Born and raised in Burlington, Kings County, he was the youngest of nine children and last surviving child of Jacob and Viola Ogilvie.

Leaving home at age 18, he made his way to Ontario and worked in the nickel mine in Sudbury. He also put his hand to other manual labor jobs.

When he was 22, he married Alice Hird in 1952. They celebrated 73 years of marriage last November.

Initially, he worked for Murray Armstrong, driving a pulp truck. However, farming was in his blood, having grown up on a farm and eventually returned to farming. He and Alice raised cattle and grew hoe crops. He was a hardworking, dedicated man and besides farming he took on other jobs which included driving a truck, working in the woods, and picking apples.

“Mac or Mackie” was a longstanding member of the Burlington Baptist Church and served for many years as a Trustee.

His life was an accumulation of many stories, which he loved to share. Most of his stories revolved around hunting, fishing, memorable games of 45’s, crokinole, time spent with family and friends, and his few and well-deserved trips away that took him to BC, Newfoundland and places in between.

During his past 3 years at Fundy Villa he gained new friends, all whom he held dear to his heart. He referred to this place as “home”.

He is survived by three sons, David (Carla), Viewmount; Steven (Kathleen), Burlington; Daniel (Julie), Burlington; grandchildren: Shane (Candace) Ogilvie, Nicole Ogilvie, Andrew Ogilvie, Alyssa Swindell (Cameron), Jordan Ogilvie, special mention to Tabitha Jackson; great grandchildren: Donovan Ogilvie, Kalum Ogilvie, Nixie Ogilvie; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Viola Ogilvie; wife, Alice; son, Mark Ogilvie; grandsons, Dustin and Malcolm Ogilvie; brothers-in-law, Budd Sanford, Richard Doucet, Kenneth Hird and John Sturk; sisters-in-law, Kay Hird and Flora Thurston.

The family would like to extend our sincere thank you to Dr. Christine Mercer, the medical personnel at Valley Regional Hospital emergency department and surgical unit for their care.

Visitation will be held from 1:00PM until the funeral service begins at 2:00PM Tuesday, August 4, 2026 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448 with Rev. Dr. Harry Gardner officiating. Interment will be in the Burlington Cemetery. A reception for family and friends will follow in the Burlington Community Hall.
