Obituary

WHITMAN, Malcolm "Shane" – age 59 of Paradise, NS passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at home. Born in Middleton, he was the son of Miriam (Durling) Whitman and the late Malcolm Whitman. Shane grew up and went to school in Bridgetown. As a young man, he hitch-hiked out West, where he earned his carpentry ticket and eventually built his first home. He then went on to become a professional firefighter for the Calgary Fire Department. He wanted his children to grow up near family, so he moved back to the Valley where he was employed with Michelin North America Waterville for 26 years in production. Shane was a genuine "people person," who loved riding his motorcycles and spending time with his dogs. Above all else he devoted himself to his family whom he loved dearly. He is survived by his mother Miriam Whitman, Bridgetown; his wife of 25 years Peggy (Irving) Whitman, Paradise; his daughters, Gillian Irving (Corey Morrison), Mount Hanley; Nicole "Nicki" Whitman, St. John's, NL; Elyse Whitman, Paradise; his son, Jared Whitman, Paradise; and a precious grandson on the way; his sisters, Sheena (David) Charlton, North Williamston; Steffany (Mike) Maillet, Middleton. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. He will be missed by his canine companions Carly, Sasha, and Zoey. Besides his father, he was predeceased by his sister, Sybil (Whitman) Couture. In keeping with Shane's wishes, cremation has taken place . A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00PM – 4:00PM Wednesday, December 28, 2016 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448.
