Obituary

It is with deep sadness and love that we announce the peaceful passing of Marc Edwin Britney at home on Monday, May 12, 2025.

Marc was a devoted husband, an extraordinary father, a loving son and brother, and a loyal friend to many. Born in Middleton on May 8, 1965, he was the beloved son of the late John "Jack" Britney and Patricia Britney, and the younger brother of David Britney, with whom he shared a close and lifelong bond. He also leaves behind his mother-in-law, Joan Wheeler, and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Of all the things Marc loved in life, nothing meant more to him than his family- his wife Karla and his daughters, Kyra and Alaina.

Those who knew Marc will remember him as an incredibly kind person. Marc was a cherished friend, known for the deep and lasting connections he built over the years. His presence could light up any room, and his ability to make others laugh- even in the most difficult moments- was one of his most remarkable qualities. Through all of his health challenges, Marc remained a source of positivity, strength, and dignity.

A lifelong adventurer, Marc had a deep love for the outdoors and for exploring the world. He found joy in cycling, hiking, camping, diving and traveling- and felt most at peace when surrounded by nature. He shared these passions with his family, creating unforgettable memories: canoeing down the Annapolis River in the hand-crafted canoe he built himself, backcountry camping at Kejimkujik, hiking Mount Washington, and spending summers at the family cottage on Trout Lake. One of his proudest accomplishments was hiking to the base camp of Mount Everest. He also had a love for animals, especially the dogs who were his faithful companions over the years.

Professionally, Marc worked for many years as a financial planner with SISIP. He also gave generously of his time and talents in service to his community, serving on numerous boards including CUDIC, NS Municipal Finance Corporation, Divert Nova Scotia, and as a councillor for the Town of Middleton for nearly two decades.

Karla, Kyra, and Alaina would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the entire Annapolis Valley Palliative Care Team, the wonderful caregivers from Senior Home Care by Angels, Dr. Nestel, and Dr. Surette for their compassionate support and dedicated care.

A celebration of Marc's life will take place on Sunday, June 22nd at the 14 Wing Annapolis Mess in Greenwood from 2-4 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marc's memory may be made to Annapolis Valley Palliative Care, or charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home 1-855-825-3448 and online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
