Margaret Anne Butler

Butler, Margaret Anne – 84, of Kentville, NS passed away Friday, August 7, 2026 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Margaree Valley, Inverness County, she was a daughter of the late Sylvester and Mary (Fortune) Poirier.

Margaret Anne was a very hard and well-respected worker. In the hospitality industry, Marg worked at many locations, including The Old Orchard Inn as the Lounge Manager, The White Spot, and the Slumber Inn. Marg loved her profession and it showed as she received letters of commendation from the Old Orchard Inn, the Slumber Inn, and the Sheriff’s Department, where she worked for 7 years. She worked as a security guard for festivals and as a property manager.

A talented lady, Marg won the AVR 50th Anniversary Cake design contest – a trip to Oak Island. Marg was known as the “Keeper” of Seven Bridges since 1996 and was a proud volunteer with Christmas Daddies and many other fundraisers and benefits. Alan and Marg enjoyed their motorcycles and were awarded the Atlantic Canada – Couple of the Year. They took many trips to places such as Nashville and Newfoundland as members of the Goldwing Riders Association. In later years, Marg enjoyed making many beautiful quilts, doing upholstery, gardening, baking and of course being Alan’s support at his music events.

Surviving is her husband, Alan; daughter, Deborah Larder (Darren Hennessey), Kingston; sons, Nelson Zinck (Shannon Graves), Aylesford; Craig Gates, Aylesford; Daniel-Alan Butler, Kentville; grandchildren, Tiffani Meister, Kentville; Chad Meister, British Columbia; Hunter Zinck, Aylesford; Remmington Zinck, Middleton; and Kaydan Butler, Alberta; great grandchild, Ethan Pelton, Kentville; brothers, Peter (Edie) Poirier, Margaree; Henry Poirier, Margaree; Basil Poirier, Grand deTang; Daniel (Sandra) Poirier, Fort McMurray, AB; sisters-in-law, Marlene Fortune, Margaree Valley; Kelly Poirier, Sydney; and brother-in-law, George Mitchell, Alberta.

Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, John Fortune and her sisters, Adele (Pat) LeBrun; Mary (Danny) Doyle; Emily Mitchell.
