TRITES, Margaret Jocelyn Patterson ~1919-2018
Jocelyn Trites, aged 98, of Kingston, died peacefully on March 23, 2018. Born in Winnipeg, MB, Jocelyn moved to Wolfville at age 3. After obtaining B.A. and B.Ed. degrees at Acadia University, Jocelyn became the principal and teacher of Grades 6-11 in the two-room schoolhouse in Lower Canard before moving to Horton Academy in Wolfville to teach French. Later in life, she taught mathematics at West Kings District High School. For many years, Jocelyn played the cello in both the Acadia University orchestra and Chamber ensemble. Jocelyn was a long-time member of the Kingston United Baptist Church and a provincial life member of the Women's Missionary Society. She volunteered with the Valley Care Line, and the Victorian Order of Nurses in both their Meals on Wheels program and their Friendly Visiting program. Jocelyn was predeceased by her parents, Frederic William Patterson and Minnie Rae Johnson, her husband Lorraine (Laurie) C. Trites, and sisters Gwen Mason and Frances Macphail. She is survived by her sister, Enid Davison; four children - Bruce (Suzanne) of Almonte, Ontario; James (Lucille) of Wolfville, Nova Scotia; Margaret (Kenneth) of Orleans, Ontario; and John (Janet) of Berwick, Nova Scotia; nine grandchildren – Catherine, Andrew, Sarah, Stephen, Jonathan, Marsha, Jennifer, Peter, Michael; and ten great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren all knew how much she loved them. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., 902-825-3448. A Memorial Service will be held at Kingston United Baptist Church on Saturday, March 31st, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Barry Dixon officiating and assisted by Rev. Ida Armstrong-Whitehouse; to be followed by a reception in the church hall. Memorial donations may be made to the Kingston United Baptist Church or charity of your choice.
