Born April 7, 1931 in Shelburne, N.S., Margaret Ann was a lovely person, with a kind and selfless heart who loved her family and friends dearly. She will be greatly missed. She was a daughter of the late Leigh Richmond Schaffner and Christy Frances (Grant) Schaffner. Margaret Ann is survived by her sisters, Mary Louise Conlin and Janet Leigh Schaffner; her sons, Mark and Scott; grandchildren Eileen, Lee, Jared, Heath and Daniel; four great grandchildren; as well as her best friend, Marlene Jackson. The family later moved to Berwick, where Margaret Ann graduated from Berwick High School. She then went to Halifax where, in 1953, she became a graduate nurse from the V.G. Hospital. She worked for the Victorian Order of Nurses, and then became an airline stewardess with Air Canada. She then raised her children, following which she returned to Berwick to nurse at the Western Kings Memorial Hospital. She later became the head nurse for the surgical ward from which she retired in 1994. Margaret Ann was very active in the Berwick United Church where she was a life elder and served as a steward for several years. As a volunteer she delivered meals on wheels and worked for the Canadian Cancer Society for many years. A private funeral service with limited seating was held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 27, in Berwick United Church, which was followed by a reception and visitation. The service was conducted by the Rev. Tom Woods and the Rev. Ivan Norton. Interment was in Berwick Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to Berwick United Church.
