Obituary

ASHLEY, Margaret Victoria "Margie"-78 of Meadowvale passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 9, 2013 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, NS. Born in Wawota, Saskatchewan, she was a daughter of the late Alfred John and Hilda Gertrude (Garvin) O'Neill. Margie spent her early years in Sydney, and graduated from Holy Angels High School. After graduation, Margie attended St. Martha's hospital nursing program. Later, she married and was the very proud mother of her five children. In 1981, Margie married the love of her life and life partner, Hardy. Together they ventured throughout Canada spending time in Truro, Whitehorse, Fredericton, Alberta and then eventually returning to retire on their little piece of paradise in the Annapolis Valley. Margie loved fishing, watching her resident hummingbirds, enjoying the fresh blueberries from their blueberry patch, and cherished her many feline companions over the years. Margie took great pride and joy in the birth of each and every grandchild and great grandchild, and each one filled a special place in her heart. She is survived by her husband of 32 years Hardy Ashley, Meadowvale, NS; daughters, Paula (Eddie) McDonald, Leona Spencer and Joan (Barry) Rowe all of Sydney, NS and Karen (Evan) MacNeil, Eastern Passage; son, Andy O'Connell (Denise Campbell), Hampton, NB; step children; Peter (Brenda) Ashley, Yorkton, SK; Heather (Dave Billingham) Ashley, Cochrane, AB; sisters, Dolena Davis, Victoria, BC and Sharon (Ernie) Kirby, Halifax, NS; brother, Ed (Martina) O'Neill, Ottawa, ON; 18 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2:00PM Saturday, July 13, 2013 in the Middleton Funeral Home 398 Main Street (902) 825-3448 with Rev. Bill McLeod officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or a Charity of Choice.
