BERWICK TEACHER ~ MARGARET WEST

PASSES AWAY AT AGE 107

WEST, Margaret Muriel ~ Age 107, of Berwick, Kings Co., passed away on Monday, February 24, 2020, in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville, after a long and well-lived life. Born on September 17, 1912, in Brooklyn, Annapolis County, she was the daughter of Lamert and Belle (Hawkesworth) Parrish. Moving to Rockland, Kings Co., Margaret grew up on her parent's farm and began teaching at Davidson Street School in her teens. Later she taught in South Waterville and Rockland. Margaret married her husband of 57 years, Whitney and raised their daughter, Betty Ann in Berwick. Later she upgraded her teaching skills at N.S. Normal School, Truro and began teaching again in Morristown before ending her career at Somerset & District School. Margaret was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt who was an excellent cook, creative quilter, photographer, artist and birdwatcher. She loved being by the sea and spent her summer vacations in Green Bay and Morden. A member of the South Berwick Women's Institute and Berwick Baptist Church, Margaret loved gardening, and travelled as often as she could. She is survived by daughter, Betty Ann (Earle) Fuller, Berwick; grandson, Ashley Fuller, Toronto, Ont. and grandson, Lyndon Fuller (missing since 1988); several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Whitney West; a brother, Lurman (Ardyth Ward, Netina Atwell) Parrish, and sister, Ruby (Arnold Aalders, Russell Young). The family wishes to acknowledge the excellent care she received from Dr. Seaman, staff and volunteers at Evergreen Home. There will be no visitation. Funeral will be from the Berwick Baptist Church, 265 Commercial St., Berwick, at 2 p.m., on Monday March 2, with Rev. Evan Colford officiating. Reception to follow in the church annex. Burial will be in the Berwick Cemetery. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Berwick Baptist Church, the Berwick & District Volunteer Fire Department or the Canadian Wildlife Federation.
