Marguerite "Trudy"
Attrude Parker
May 12, 1936 – December 21, 2021
Marguerite Attrude (Trudy) Parker
Trudy passed away on December 21, 2021 at Tideview Terrace, Digby, NS at the age of 85.
Born May 12, 1936 in Digby, she was the second daughter of Cecil and Frances (Caswell) Jones. She spent her early years growing up on her father's farm in Joggin Bridge. After graduating from Nova Scotia Teachers College, Trudy taught school for two years in Alberta. She married George Parker, an Anglican priest, in 1956. Their first two children were born in Alberta. In 1959 they relocated to London England where three more children were born. After spending a total of 16 years living in England and another 6 years in Quebec, Trudy and George moved back to Digby in 1981.
Trudy taught piano lessons in Digby for several years and at one time had as many as 40 pupils.
In 1986, at the tender age of 50, Trudy enrolled at Acadia University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. Upon graduation in 1990 she moved back to the farmhouse in Joggin Bridge where she had grown up and lived there for the next 29 years. For the last 24 of those years, her son Stephen was living with her. In 2019 Trudy moved to Tideview Terrace.
Trudy was curator of the Admiral Digby Museum from 1990 to 1998. She also resumed teaching piano during that time and for a number of years she was a church organist and choir director.
Trudy loved music, arts and culture. Her years living in England were some of her happiest due to the rich cultural landscape available to her there. While living in London she visited art galleries and museums and attended concerts, operas, musical theatre and ballets as often as she could. A trip to Europe in 1963 was a highlight and she was particularly smitten with Florence, Italy.
Trudy enjoyed singing and in her later years was always a member of at least one choir. She was also a keen gardener. She had a special love for animals and there were usually one or more cats in the house.
Trudy is survived by her five children, Stephen, Brian (Rosemary), Shauna, Anita (Edwin), and Tim, seven grandchildren, Georgia, Christopher, Benjamin (Mikka), Madeleine, Oliver, Emma and Kathryn, and great grandson Jasper.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Tideview Terrace for the outstanding care provided to mum during the past two years. Donations in her memory may be made to Tideview Terrace or Trinity Anglican Church, Digby NS.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service and interment will be planned for a later date in 2022.
