Obituary

Bigelow, Marie Newcombe (nee Morse) age 83 of Kingston, NS passed away, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville on April 13, 2023 exactly 18 years to the day that my Dad, her husband, passed away. Born in Middleton, NS, Mom loved her family and her gardens. From a young age she found the beauty in bringing little seeds to life, growing them into gorgeous plants and flowers.  She found peace and solace in her gardens and worked out many problems there "digging in the dirt". Mom loved the ocean and to walk on the rocks and collect rocks from the shore and the beaches to have in her garden. She never took a bag so we were always juggling rocks and trying not to lose our balance, but more importantly, not drop the rocks. Mom was a wonderful cook and baker which she passed along to her children. The warm homemade raisin bread and dressing at Christmas or the yeast risen cinnamon buns with the big sticky raisins at Easter and there was not a craft that she could not do. She taught Papier Tole for over 20 years in Edmonton, Cole Harbour, Kingston and Wilmot. She knit, crocheted, tole painted, did floral arranging, ceramics, quilted, did needlepoint, crossstitch, crewel work and in her later years found an eye and a passion for photography. She loved nature and watching the birds, especially the eagles and owls as well as all other wildlife including her "pet" chipmunks that she often fed out of the palm of her hand. Mom loved to laugh and enjoyed surprising people with fun loving and harmless pranks over the years.  She was an incredibly strong woman who did not always have an easy life but always saw the glass half full and saying, "Live every day to the fullest". She was an inspiration to many, including myself and her granddaughters, Ashley and Alysa. Mom had some very good quality friends in her life, some have passed, some remain, but she had many good memories of every one of them. Thank you to so many of you that came to see her over her last few days and to the helping hands you have provided to me. She asks that you, "Remember the good times" Thank you to Dr. Ozon, the Nurses and Caregivers at VRH who provided mom with the best care possible on her last two days. Mom is survived by son Stephen, Tangier, NS; Special son-in-law, Blair Stotyn, Edmonton, AB; daughter, Margot (Ralph) Myers, Haylake, AB; and myself, Jacqueline, Nictaux Falls, NS Granddaughters, Ashley Bigelow, Middleton, NS; Alysa (Patrick Smith) Salsman, Makaraka, New Zealand; grandsons Scott Stotyn, Edmonton,AB; Stephen Bigelow, NS; great grandson, Daniel Bigelow; Grand dog Lacey and Grand cat Mya . Mom was predeceased by my Dad, her husband, the love of her life, William (Sid) Bigelow her daughter, Darlene (Michael) Bernard; her mother, Margaret (nee Newcombe) Morse; father, Earl Morse; and brother William (Billy) Morse. At mom's request there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place and arrangements have been entrusted to the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free: 1-855-825-3448.
