HORTON, Marie Gilberte Claire "Jill" - age 82 of Greenwood, NS passed away peacefully Saturday, November 15, 2014 in Heart of the Valley Long Term Care Centre, Middleton surrounded by her loving family. Born in Chicoutimi, QC she was a daughter of the late Ovila and Bernadette (Savard) Béchard. Jill was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force having served in the Women's Auxiliary Corps and later worked as a bookkeeper for many local businesses prior to becoming employed with CFB Greenwood at the School of Official Languages. She loved to travel and was very talented and creative, enjoying sewing, knitting and crocheting. Jill loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren who lovingly called her "Gigi". She is survived by her daughters, Mona (Ken) Granter, Kingston; Carolyn Horton, Bedford; her husband, Grant Horton, East Kingston; her grandsons Ryan, Dylan, Eric; her brother, Bertrand, Chicoutimi; her sister, Monique, Montreal; her sister-in-law Mireille "Mimi", Quebec; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers Robert, Rénald and Maurice. In keeping with Jill's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 7-9PM Wednesday, November 19th, 2014 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448. A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM on Thursday, November 20th in Queen of Heaven Chapel, 14 Wing Greenwood with Father John MacPherson officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. Donations in Jill's memory may be made to the Arthritis Society, Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or Canadian Cancer Society.
