Marie Louise Robicheau

Marie Louise Robicheau – of Margaretville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, September 21, 2026 in Heart of the Valley Long Term Care Centre, Middleton.

Marie was born on December 13, 1937 in Chester, Nova Scotia at the Ideal Maternity Home. The beginning of her life was remarkable, as she was a survivor of the “butter box baby” establishment. She was adopted and raised lovingly by Stan and Louise Willett in Margaretville, Nova Scotia. Growing up she worked in her family's general store and homemade ice cream parlour. She would often talk about her adventures down at the Margaretville wharf and beach, collecting dulse, hauling in lobsters and swimming in the freezing Bay of Fundy.

As a young adult she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and the Firettes. She met her husband of 68 years, Dick Robicheau, while he was docked at the wharf travelling to and from the Caribbean. They raised their five children in Margaretville. Once her children were older, Marie went to vocational school and got her hair dressing license and spent the next 20 years as an entrepreneur running her own salon. Marie was a member of Victoria Vale Baptist Church.

Marie was a very talented rug hooker, dying all her own wool. She made hundreds of intricate pieces throughout the years. She had a wonderful community of rug hookers, including her faithful friends Alice and Sue, who continued to spend meaningful time with her until the end.

Marie and Dick’s summers would be spent hosting their grandchildren and sharing their passion for Margaretville, art, fishing and gardening. Marie was passionate about history and the history of Margaretville, completing research and preserving the stories she would find.

Marie is survived by her children Mary Turetzek, Charlie Robicheau, Walter Robicheau, David (Paula) Robicheau, sister-in-law Mary Esther Good, eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Dick Robicheau, daughter Nancy Leroy and son-in-law George Turetzek.

Thank you to the staff at Heart of the Valley nursing home for caring so well for her in her last few years. It restored a quality of life for her that we are eternally grateful for.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2026 in Margaretville Baptist Church, Rev. Deann Carter officiating. Reception will follow the service. There will be a private family interment in Bay View Cemetery, Margaretville. Donations in memory may be made to Margaretville & District Fire Department.
