HELPARD, Marilyn Elizabeth ~ Age 73, of Waterville, Kings Co., passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on January 19, 1946, in Berwick, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late Harry and Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Richings) Travis. Marilyn loved her family, friends and community and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She had served as a canvasser for the Canadian Cancer Society for over 20 years. Marilyn loved time spent in her flower gardens every summer. She was a member of the Waterville Baptist Church and in years passed sang in the church choir as she loved music. Marilyn and Don loved attending jam sessions and were faithful attenders on Thursday nights in Cambridge as well at other places including Windermere. She loved to watch Television; in particular the Walton's, a time when life was hard, yet good. Marilyn loved to watch ball games and took a great interest in events at the Waterville Recreation Club, located behind her house. She had worked at several elections as a polling clerk and had been an active member of the Central Kings Band Parent Association working in the canteen when her children were in high school. Marilyn loved her neighbours and got along well with them. In recent years she was a member of the Waterville Cemetery Committee. Surviving are her loving husband of 55 years, Donald E. Helpard; son, Dana (Heather) Helpard, Lantz; daughter, Carla (Arthur) Harris, Coldbrook; grandchildren, Courtney, Chelsea, Haley and Olivia; brother, Glanville (Edith) Travis, Canning; brother-in-law, Arthur "Art" (Pauline) Helpard, Ottawa, Ont.; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Phyllis (Al) Hagerty, Linda (Ronald) Parker; brothers, Gary (Mary), Eric "Bo" and George Travis. There will be no visitation. All are welcome to attend a service in celebration of her life at 2 p.m., Monday, September 30, in Waterville Baptist Church, 1243 Mill St., Waterville. Pastor Christina Bigelow officiating with interment in Berwick Cemetery. A reception to follow in Waterville & District Volunteer Fire Department – Cornwallis Square Village Hall, Cambridge. Family flowers only, donations in her memory may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, Waterville & District Volunteer Fire Department or a charity of your choice. The Helpard family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the her nurse practitioners, as well as, doctors, nurses and staff at the Valley Regional Hospital for the love, care and concern shown to Marilyn during her illness and final days.
