Marilyn Elsie Shearer

Marilyn Elsie SHEARER (Beals), 80 of Lawrencetown, passed away at Mountain Lea Lodge on August 8, 2026. Born on November 18, 1945, in her Grandmother’s home in Inglisville to Les & Elsie (Gaul) Beals, Marilyn spent her childhood growing up “on the mountain”. She married her husband, Jack on March 5, 1966 and together they enjoyed 48 years of marriage before Jack’s passing in October 2014.

Marilyn spent her entire life being a caregiver, first to her younger siblings, then her 3 boys, her sister’s 3 children and then her greatest joy, her grandchildren. Plus, a few neighbourhood kids along the way. In her younger years she worked at the Middleton Dry Cleaners and then spent many years working as the Secretary/Dispatcher for the Annapolis Valley Trucker’s Association. Marilyn was a longtime supporter of the NS Liberals and worked as an Election Official on many campaigns. She was an avid Bowler and a dedicated Bingo Player. She loved her pets, drinking tea, shopping for bargains, watching her soaps, game shows and Hallmark Movies, doing Lexicon puzzles, playing crib and keeping up on the local comings and goings in town. In later years she was known as Nan’s Taxi Service. As Jack’s health declined, Marilyn took on the role as Jack’s Nurse. She became an expert in many medical fields and knew her way around every hospital from the Valley to the City. After Jack passed, she faced her own medical battle and became a Cancer Survivor.

Marilyn is survived by her three sons, Johnny (Gwen), Troy (Leyla) and Willie (Kim); Grandchildren, Mythia, Brandon, Dre (Erica), Tonia and Josie (Steven); Great-Grandchildren, Ariel, Evelyn, Benjamin, Ivy, Daisy and Lane; Sister, Lorriane (Randy) Neily; Brother, Ted (Patty) Beals; Sister-in-law, Susan (Jim) Lutz; Brother-in-law, Gary (Bev) Shearer and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her half sister, Eileen Robar; Sister-in-laws, Shirley Langille, Annette Dumbrell and Norma Taylor; Brother-in-laws, Gordon, Wayne, Bill and Paul Shearer.

The Family wish to thank the Staff at Mountain Lea for their care of Marilyn these past few years. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026 at 2:00pm at the Lawrencetown Legion Branch 112. A private interment will take place earlier that day at the Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown. Donations in memory may be made to the Canada Cancer Society.
