Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Marilyn Rose Wagner, of Morden, Kings Co., N.S., who died peacefully on Sunday, August 17th, 2025, at the age of 72, following a short but courageous battle with heart failure and cancer, at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Just weeks prior she joyfully celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary—a milestone marked by love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Born in Berwick, Nova Scotia, Marilyn was the third child of the late Claude and Ethel (Corkum) Veinotte. She graduated from West Kings District High School in 1971 before moving to Toronto studying to become a dental assistant. She worked as a dental assistant and later in dental and medical reception, but she would tell you her most important and rewarding role was being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Her memory will be cherished by her husband of 50 years, Brad Wagner, Morden, N.S.; her daughter, Krista Leavitt (Kyle), Fredericton, N.B.; and her son, Reid Wagner (Jackie), Avonport, N.S.; and her grandchildren, Isaac, Tate, Molly and Sullivan. Forever held in the hearts of her siblings, Phillip Veinotte (Ann), Cornwall, N.S.; Darlene Veinotte, Halifax, N.S.; and Mona Wallace, Berwick, N.S.; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends who were touched by her presence.

Marilyn's greatest joy was found in the company of those she loved—her family, her friends, and her church community. She had an extraordinary gift for making people feel seen, heard, and valued. She genuinely wanted to know you—your story, your quirks, your joys. Her warm, magnetic spirit and legendary "gift of gab" made her unforgettable. Those who truly knew her, loved her.

She had a deep and abiding faith and was a longtime member of New Hope Wesleyan Church, attending both the Kentville and Kingston, N.S. locations. Her most treasured moments outside of family were spent among her church family—at the Ashram, in Bible studies, women's groups, and Sunday services. A devoted follower of Christ, she constantly sought to grow in faith and wisdom, and lived as a true servant of God.

She lived life with unmatched zest—always eager to have fun, always wanting to stay a little longer, laugh a little louder, and love a little deeper. She'll be remembered for her vivacious spirit, strong will, and deep love of connecting with others. Her constant care and concern for those around her was truly inspiring, and the love and selflessness she showed will continue to ripple through the lives she touched.

Marilyn leaves a big hole in many hearts—especially those of her children and her husband—but the joy she brought to life and the faith she shared remain deeply rooted in those who knew her. She will never, ever be forgotten. In our hearts, she is surely riding her bicycle or rowing her rowboat in heaven, basking in the warmth, laughter, and light she so dearly loved here on earth. In her final days, she asked to be reminded of the good times—so please, remember those moments, and carry them with you.

A celebration of Marilyn's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, September 13th , in New Hope Wesleyan Church, 7054 Highway 12, Kentville, NS, with Rev. Scott Prime and Rev. David Tysick officiating.  Following the service, she will be laid to rest in a ceremony at the Berwick Cemetery—her final resting place. A reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kings County SPCA, in honour of Marilyn's lifelong love for animals, or to the Canadian Red Cross, whose medical equipment support was invaluable during her time of need.

We the family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Valley Regional Hospital for their unwavering kindness and exceptional care during her time there.
