DOWELL, Marion Haviland ~ Age 77, of Torbrook Mines, Annapolis Co., N.S. It is with great sadness that we the family announce the peaceful passing of our loving mother on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at her home. Born on September 25, 1948, in Welsford, New Brunswick, she was the eldest daughter of the late Rev. Arthur F. and Flora K.H. (MacDonald) Whiston.
Marion grew up in the Maritimes, as her father served in several United Churches throughout her childhood. A graduate of the Nova Scotia Teacher's College in Truro, she had a short career as a teacher before marrying her husband Bill and became a full-time loving mother. Marion and Bill raised a blended family that would eventually grow to be six children.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband William R. "Bill" Dowell.
Marion is survived by her younger sister, Barbara Whiston, Truro; her children, Heather (Steven) Banks, Nictaux; Michael (Michelle) Dowell, Middleton; Jeffery (Jennifer) Dowell, Nictaux; stepdaughters, Lorraine (Mike) Kinsman, Alberta; Jennifer (Gene) Wood, Kingston; Mary (Danny) Vaughn, Aylesford Lake; grandchildren, Jaymee-Lynne, Brandon, Bailey, Callie, Robbie, Nakia, Kent, Kate, Karlie, Joelle, Nicholas, Jason and Natasha; and 12 great grandchildren.
In keeping with Marion's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. Donations in her memory may be made to Nova Scotia S.P.C.A.
