HARTLEN, Marion Gertrude Gertie 92 of Kingston passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, Saturday, October 16, 2010 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Marion (Dockrill) Appleby. In early years while living in Halifax, Gertie was an active member of the Margaret Rose Friendship Club, which was a charitable organization that was very active during wartime, providing many gifts for the troops overseas and abroad. Gertie also enjoy going for a leisurely drive and playing bingo. Gertie is survived by her husband Clifford; daughter, Carol Anne (Hugh) Chisholm, Granville Ferry; sons, Ken (Faye), Kingston and Ron (Sheila), Wilmot; brother, Lloyd (Shirley) Appleby of Halifax as well as 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by sisters, Mildred, Josie and Edith; brothers, Gordon, Walter, Stanley and a grandson Michael. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, October 19th in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St. (902) 825-3448, where a funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Rev. Matthew Sponagle officiating. Interment will be in the Kingston United Cemetery. By request, family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to the Alzheimers Society of Nova Scotia or to Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown or charity of choice. Gerties family would like thank the staff of Mountain Lea Lodge for their compassionate care they provide during her time at the Lodge, also thanks to the Medical Unit Staff at Soldiers Memorial Hospital and special thanks to Dr. Goodine, Dr. Saxon and Dr. MacLean.
