Obituary

Marjorie Elizabeth (Marj) Spencer

1939 - 2016

Spencer, Marjorie Elizabeth "Marj" – 77 of Greenwood , passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 in Annapolis Community Health Center , Annapolis Royal . Born in Barrie, Ontario to George Alvin and Francis Mae Kinsella, she was married to Charlie Ernest "Ernie" Spencer of Minto, NB. "Marj" married the love of her life "Ernie" on November 6, 1958 in Barrie, ON and dedicated her life to providing a loving home for him and their 5 children. Marjorie spent her entire life moving to numerous cities and towns across Canada, which she did willingly as part of the sacrifices you make in becoming a military spouse. Her family was first and foremost the most important thing in her life. She was a devoted mother to her five children and a committed understanding wife. In her final days she was lucky to be given the gift of knowing her time would soon be over as a matriarch of her family and had the unique pleasure of being lovingly surrounded by them in her final weeks. She loved to build puzzles with family, enjoyed reading and also playing card games. She was passionate about collecting sea glass when taking walks on beaches. Her main pleasure was to call every one of her family on those special days and wish them the best; the off key Birthday song was always appreciated and is now an ongoing family tradition. In her later years she became quite the adventurer and developed a love of travelling. She is survived by her mother Frances Mae Kinsella, Barrie, ON, her sons, Bill (Kelly) Halifax, NS, Darrell (Debbie) Hillsborough, NB and Ernie, Victoria, BC; her daughters Terri (Harley) Doyle, whom she lived with in Greenwood, NS, Lori (JP) Grant, Edmonton, AB and Alisha (Shawn) Spencer, Snow Road Station, ON; grandchildren Stefanie, Tracey, Jordon, Breanne, Kristy and Emily; great grandchildren Daejah, Diondra and Alexander; her sisters Georgina Raedts and Carol Decarie, both of Barrie, ON and many other loving family and friends. She was predeceased by her father George Alvin Kinsella and her beloved husband Ernie Spencer of 52 years. Marj's Celebration of Life will be held 1:00PM, Saturday, August 20, 2016 at St. Mark's Chapel, 14 Wing Greenwood with Chaplain Jennifer Longley officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Annapolis Valley Palliative Care. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street , (902) 825-3448.
