Marjorie Lavaughn
Hudgins
August 20, 1926 – July 14, 2017
HUDGINS, Marjorie Lavaughn - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our Mom, Marjorie Lavaughn Hudgins, age 90, of Kingston, Kings Co., N.S., on July 14, 2017. Born in Somerset, Kings Co., N.S. on August 20, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Milford and Edith (Watkins) Vidito. Prior to being married, Mom was a member of the Canadian Women's Army Corps. She was employed on the nursing staff of Grand View Manor for 15 years, a position she considered a pleasure, not a job. Following her retirement, she continued for many years as a volunteer with two of her dearest friends and they were commonly known as the Golden Girls. As a very active volunteer in her community, Mom was a youth group leader in the United Church as well as a member of the UCW Unit "C". She was a Charter and Life member of the Kingston Legion Ladies Auxiliary, a 53 year member of the Evangeline Rebekah Lodge, holding many offices and receiving the 50 year jewel. She was a Charter member and received a life membership with the Kingston & District Fire Auxiliary. Mom was also an active member of the Canadian Red Cross donating many hours to local schools, hospitals and anywhere else she was needed. She was a member of the Land of Evangeline Antique Bottle Club, the Kingston Seniors Club and SM Hospital Auxiliary. She and our Dad, Gilbert, had the honor of being nominated for citizens of the year in 1997. Mom was a very warm, loving and generous soul whose kindness was extended to family and strangers alike – everyone was welcome and no one left hungry. Family meant everything to her and watching her family grow gave her immense pleasure. Our anchor, we will miss you being here with us Mom, but knowing you are reunited with Dad gives us great comfort. Surviving are daughters, Anna Mae (Richard) Ross, Kingston, Jane (Ron) McKay, Kingston, Debbie (Dan) Reid, Bridgewater; son, Bert (Kathy) Kingston; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Gilbert, sisters, Dorothy Pynch and Mildred Lowe, brothers, Milford, Arthur, Edward and Ronald Vidito. She was the last surviving member of her family. The family would like to thank the staff of Grand View Manor and those angels among you that treated Mom with such love and respect. There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service will be held at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, July 19th in the Kingston United Church, with Rev. Gayle MacDonald and Rev. Sarah Scott officiating, followed by a reception. Private interment will be held in the North Kingston Cemetery. Family flowers only and donations in Mom's memory may be made to the Kingston and District Fire Department or charity of choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St. 902-825-3448. Online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
