BISHOP, Mary Ellen 67 of Lawrencetown, Annapolis County passed away Saturday, November 6, 2010 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Middleton, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Alice (Wilson) Gates. Mary Ellen is survived by her husband William Bill; daughters Kelley McNaught, Greenwood and Karen Bishop (Christine Gomes), Upper Sackville; son Scott (Beth), Halifax. Brothers George (Mary Lou) Gates, Lower Sackville, Albert (Marsha) Gates, Mattatall Lake, Cumberland County and Richard, Dartmouth; special granddaughter Allie as well as several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. Mom joined the Order of Eastern Star, Acadia Chapter # 4, she was very active in the Order , she belonged to Myrtle Chapter # 31 and is presently a member of Annaval Chapter # 21. She held many offices within the Order were she made many great friends. She was very active with her childrens sporting activities and 4H. Mom was an avid baseball fan, her favorite s teams being the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Medical Surgical ICU at the QEII Hospital and the doctors and staff of the Hematology and Oncology wing at the Victoria General Hospital and the medical staff at Soldier Memorial Hospital Middleton . We would also like to thank the VON and Red Cross for their assistance and support and in particular Dr. Paul McGuire family physician and Gwen Ellsworth of the VON who mom considered a very special person. An Order of Eastern Star Service, conducted by Annaval Chapter #31 will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 10th, immediately followed by a memorial service, Pastor Patty Beals officiating all in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448, with a reception to follow. By request, family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to the Lymphoma Research Foundation Canada, Arthritis Society of Nova Scotia, O.E.S. ESTRAL Scholarship Fund or charity of choice.
