Obituary

DANIELS, Mary Elizabeth ~ Age 92, of Burlington, Kings Co., N.S., passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born on December 15, 1931, in Viewmount, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late William and Bessie (Minniss) Sweeney. Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband, Lorimer Daniels; sons, Dean and Billy; daughter-in-law, Marjorie; granddaughter, Heidi; grandson, Wesley; brother, Jack Sweeney.

She was the proud mother of 10 sons, and those surviving her are Jim (Cheryl), Burlington; Peter, Burlington; Tommie (Susan) Viewmount; Robin, Burlington; Paddy, South Williamston; Lyndon (Patricia), Wileville; Randy (Gilda), Burlington, Bobby (Patricia) Burlington; daughters-in-law, Chanpriya, Abbotsford, B.C.; Angie, Black Rock. Her legacy stretches over five generations with 32 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.

Mary loved her community and was a life-long member of Burlington Women's Institute and the Burlington Community Club. She was a very humble woman who loved her family dearly. Mary attended many exhibitions over the years to cheer on family members who participated in horse and ox pulls in the maritime provinces and Maine, U.S.A. She visited many provinces in Canada and always wanted to visit Alaska which she was able to do in the summer of 1995. Mary wore many hats: Daughter, Wife, Mom, Mommie, Nan, Nanny, Grammie, White Nanny, Mountain Nanny, and Chainsaw Grammie which she was dubbed while in Alaska when she started up the chainsaw and cut up firewood for the campsite.

She was a wonderful cook/baker, so much so that she created a cookbook for family members with all the long-time favorite recipes. There was always room for one more at the supper table, but you had best remove your hat. Mary loved nothing better than rocking in her chair listening while family gathered round, she was truly in her happy place. She has left us with sad hearts but the greatest memories and love always. Heaven surely gained an angel, until we meet again. Too-da-loo!
