Mary "We"
Hughena Dipenta
December 17, 1928 – July 3, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Hughena ("We") DiPenta (Carrigan) at the Evergreen Home for Special Care in Kentville, NS, on July 3, 2021 at the age of 92. We passed away peacefully with family by her side.
Born in New Waterford, NS, We was the eldest daughter of the late John and Euphemia (MacDonald) Carrigan. She is survived by her two sons, Barry (Judy) and Bradley; four very special grandchildren, Joseph (Jessica), Jennifer (Paul O'Connell), Jillian (Matthew Nicoll) and Mitchell; seven great-grandchildren, Chloe, Jacob, Sophie, Joshua, Susannah, Rosa and Vincent. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was so proud of each and every one of them.
We is also survived by her sisters, Dean Cook and Andrea (John) Gallivan, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband, Val, her brothers, Gary and Bill, her brother-in-law, Douglas Cook and nephew Dougie Cook.
We lived in New Waterford, Sydney, Moncton and Dartmouth before moving to Middleton where she lived until 2018. She worked for many years in ladies fashion and finished her working career at the Annavale Co-op in Middleton. She made many friends along the way that were dear to her. She always had a kind word for everyone she met and had a special way of making all who knew her feel loved.
We loved beautiful things and she was forever changing her rooms around, painting or redecorating with her sisters. She especially loved decorating for Christmas every year adding another angel (or two!) to her collection. She loved to garden, filling her yard with lilacs, willows, hydrangeas, hostas, and roses. She was always great company for a hot cup of tea and something sweet.
Above all, We will be remembered for her love, generosity, and devotion to her family. She loved to cook and no one left her home without a full belly of gnocchi and perogies. She was her grand-son, Joe's, biggest hockey fan, and a favourite family memory is Gram drinking from the Stanley Cup in his honour. She loved having her grandchildren come stay with her and especially looked forward to their summer visits.
A very heartfelt thanks to the staff and nurses of Evergreen Home for their wonderful care of our beautiful mother and grandmother over the past three years. She was especially thrilled to be crowned the Apple Blossom Queen just a few short weeks ago. A tribute to the beautiful, elegant, kind lady she was, inside and out.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on July 9, 2021 at St. Monica's Church, Middleton at 3:00 pm. Covid protocols will be followed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., 902-825-3448. Online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com .
