Mary Margaret
Jackson
April 17, 1931 – May 11, 2023
It is with heavy hearts and much love that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother Mary of Greenwood on May 11, 2023. A resident at Kennedy's Boarding Home for Seniors, she passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side. Born in the small community of Cleveland, NS, April 17, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Lily (Gerrior) Babin. Although born in Cleveland, Mary grew up in West Arichat until leaving home at the young age of 16. She moved to Halifax where she cooked and did housekeeping for several families. Out on a blind date one night, little did she know that she was about to meet the love of her life. On August 25, 1958, she married David E. Jackson and together they raised four children. With her new hubby, a member of the Canadian Air Force, Mary got to travel around and lived in Chatham, NB, Baden-Soellingen, Germany and Greenwood, NS where they remained. Mary was employed at the Middleton Drycleaners for 10 years before settling down as a homemaker, devoting her life to caring for her family. Her many pleasures included knitting, gardening and pickling, we sure are going to miss her nice warm slippers and yummy Dutch relish. Mary also loved to bake and was known by her children to be quite adept at using a wooden spoon. A big fan of game shows, you could always count on the TV being tuned to one of many that she liked to watch, especially Jeopardy, we think it was because of Alex Trebek. She also like to listen to music, and we will surely be brought back to special times when we hear songs from her favorite artists like Vince Gill, Johnny Reid, Charlie Pride, Randy Travis and of course Elvis, just to name a few. Mary is survived by her four children: Lemuel (Patty) Jackson, Winnipeg, Man.; Colette (Ron) McNeil, Lawrencetown, Halifax Co.; Peggy (the late Gregg) Patterson, Kingston, Kings Co., David (Sherry) Jackson, Amherst, Cumberland Co.; three grandchildren, Alexander, Aren and Nicholas; and a great granddaughter, Charlotte; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband, David E. Jackson; brothers, Arthur, Francis and Jean Babin and grandchildren, Lee "Sarah" and Mark. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Barb and Rose who were like extended family members to Mary, the love and compassion you showed our mom in the last few weeks will not be forgotten, especially Barb, the many sleepless nights you had go above and beyond what we could have ever expected. The family also gives a special thank you to Dr. Crystal Todd, VON Ashley and Rev Leon Langille. Mary was an exceptionally kind and caring person with a great sense of humor, a devout Roman Catholic and lived her life the way she wanted, on her terms. Respecting her last wish of wanting everyone to remember her as she was, there will be no visitation. Funeral and reception will be celebrated 2 PM, Wednesday May 24, 2023 , in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free 1-855-825-3448. Officiating will be Rev. Father Michael Walsh with interment in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Kingston. Family flowers only, if you are considering a donation please consider making one in Mary's memory to Kennedy's Boarding Home for Seniors .
