MARY J. SMITH PASSES AWAY AT AGE 102

SMITH, Mary Jean ~ Age 102, of Berwick, formerly of Factorydale, Kings Co., passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2020, in Mahone Bay Nursing Home, Mahone Bay. Born on September 15, 1917, in Farmington, Lunenburg Co., she was a daughter of the late Clarence W.D. and Bessie E. (Bezanson) Veno. Mary was an adherent of Christ Anglican Church, Berwick. She was employed with the naval communications branch, Maritime Command, HMC Dockyards for many years, until her retirement. A few of Mary's favourite hobbies including making Barbie clothes, cryptoquote puzzles, painting and baking which included her famous fudge. She and Smitty enjoyed time spent playing 45's and a special mention to the Dixon family, who she played many card games with over the years. Mary had many furry feline friends for most of her life, and especially the ones while living with her niece Carol and husband Larry. Surviving are her sister, Virginia Ward, Burlington, Ont.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband George W. "Smitty" Smith; sisters, Marguerite Scott, Muriel Pike, Viola Whall, Alice Gray, Beatrice "Bea" Bligh and Shirley Wilson; brothers, Robert, Corey, Lester and Lincoln Veno. There will be no visitation. A graveside service will take place in Berwick Cemetery, at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to D.V.A.
