Obituary

KEDDY, Mary Phyllis ~ Age 79, of Grand View Manor, Berwick, and a former long-time resident of Waterville, Kings Co., N.S., passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on March 9, 1946, in Lakeview, Kings Co., she was the daughter of the late John E. and Jenny L. (Barkhouse) Oickle. Mary had first worked as a C.N.A. at Wolfville Nursing Home, and later at Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre, from where she retired after 29 years of service. She was a member of the former Trinity United Church of Waterville and Woodville. Mary and Francis enjoyed playing crib and times spent at garage parties in the family garage. Surviving are daughters, Virginia Keddy (Kelley-Anne Hurley), Liverpool; Nadine (Jamie) Parker, Harmony; son, Steven Keddy (Jackie Crowell), Waterville; grandchildren, Jessica (Joel), Samantha (Matt), Dylan, Ethan (Beth) and Chloe; brother, James Oickle, East Dalhousie; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Francis E. Keddy; sisters, Alma Rose in infancy; and Ruth Reid; brothers, Lloyd, Albert and Maynard Oickle. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. All are welcome to attend a graveside service that will take place at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 20, in Waterville Cemetery, 1227 Maple St., Waterville. Pastor Christina Bigelow officiating, with a reception to follow at the Waterville & District Volunteer Fire Hall. Immediate family flowers only, donations in her memory may be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or to Waterville & District Volunteer Fire Department. The family would like to say a special thank you for the compassionate care shown to their mother during her brief stay at Valley Regional Hospital.
