Maureen "Molly"
Nora Butters
September 26, 1928 – January 16, 2021
BUTTERS, Maureen "Molly" Nora - September 26, 1928 – January 16, 2021. It is with profound sadness that the family of Maureen "Molly" Butters announce her peaceful passing at Grand View Manor, Berwick, NS in her 93 rd year. Molly was born in Rochester, England to Nell (Lees) and Ernie Stinson, both war veterans. As a young girl during the Blitz of London, she was one of the many children relocated to the relative safety of the surrounding countryside. Following the end of the war, she emigrated to Canada. There she met Bill Butters, a dashing young man from Newfoundland. Their married life began in Toronto, working hard and raising a young family until they could afford to purchase five acres outside of the city in Goodwood, ON on which they built a tidy little house. With her husband at work and two young sons underfoot, she contributed to the household by operating a roadside diner from the front of their newly finished home. The circular drive quickly filled with truck drivers stopping by for healthy snacks and a chat which she was always ready to offer. That enterprise eventually came to an end when a new road bypassed the residence. Never to sit idle, nursing became her focus and in her indominable fashion offered her services as a union representative at Uxbridge Cottage Hospital. When her youngest son became a family physician and settled in Cambridge, ON, Molly and Bill decided to move there as well. They bought a home and lived comfortably there in retirement for a number of years until Bill's passing in 2006. She was active in the seniors' community and expanded her horizons by enrolling in various art classes; although her greatest joy was being a member of her church choir. When her youngest son retired to Nova Scotia, she again followed him on this new adventure bringing her beloved sister, Pat along. There the two of them shared many escapades living in side by side condos before moving into the Berkeley Retirement Residence in Dartmouth, where she lived the remainder of her life enjoying the company of newfound friends. Throughout her life, Molly was always active, skydiving at the age of 80, travelling, painting, playing cards and socializing with friends. Highly intelligent, Molly was an inspiration to all; a voracious reader with a lifelong passion for learning. She was quick witted with a keen sense of humour. Molly was predeceased by her parents, Ernest and Eleanor "Nell" Stinson; her husband, Bill butters; her sister, Patricia Barnett and her loving granddaughter, Leanne. She leaves behind her two sons, Michael (Linda) Butters and David (Maggie) Butters, along with 7 cherished grandchildren, Mary Paul) Jones, Rachel (Mike) Pepper, Shannon (Daniel) Clarke, Dierdre (Andrew) Burns, Andrew, Meghan and Colin Butters; and also 4 great grandsons, Michael and William Jones; James and Patrick Clarke. Thank you to the staff, friends and residents at the Berkeley in Dartmouth for their kindness and camaraderie that made her final years so enjoyable and to the caring and compassion of the nurses and staff at Grand View Manor that made her final days comfortable. Due to pandemic restrictions there will be no visitation or service at this time, but a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to www.feednovascotia.ca which is based in Dartmouth and provides food security to those less fortunate. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St. toll free 1-855-825-3448. Online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
