Obituary

GATES, Max Frederick - Age 78 of Kingston, NS passed away peacefully Friday, June 6, 2014 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton surrounded by his family. Born in Berwick, he was a son of the late Frederick and Madeline (Keddy) Gates. Max owned and operated Max's Barber Shop for 52 years. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Max was an avid fiddle player and enjoyed playing in several country bands. He is survived by his loving wife the former Gail Lutz, Kingston; his sons, Billy Gates (Brenda), Hantsport ; Allen Shearer (Kim Adsett), Kingston; Michael (Miranda) Gates, Grande Prairie, AB; his sisters, Jean MacNeil, Millville; Marjorie Bower, Hammonds Plains; his brother, Donald (Violet) Gates, Millville; his grandchildren, Harley, Amanda, Cody, Christina, Catherine, Meghan and Mason and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Mildred and brothers Russell and Boyd. In keeping with Max's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 7-9PM Monday, June 9, 2014 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448 where a memorial service will be held 2:00PM Tuesday, June 10, 2014 with Rev. Leon Langille officiating. A reception will follow the service. Interment will be in the Morristown Cemetery. Donations in Max's memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or charity of choice.
