Obituary

CURRIE, Melvyn Douglas ~ age 67, of New Minas, passed away suddenly at home on Thursday, January 10, 2019.  Born in Fredericton, NB, he was a son of the late Kenneth Alexander and Edith Jean (Mills) Currie. Melvyn was a retail manager with Metropolitan Stores from 1970 to 1997; mainly in Windsor, NS and Digby. He also ran Needs Convenience in Nictaux for several years. He was a member of the New Minas Lions Club and a former member of the Middleton Lions Club. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling, square dancing and travelling to conventions. Melvyn will be deeply missed by his daughter, Leyla (Allan) Caldwell, Lawrencetown; son, Duane Currie, New Minas; sister, Merelyn Currie, Halifax; brother, Brian (Lida) Currie, Moncton; grandchildren, Shane, Megan, Scott & Shelby; sister-in-law, Brenda Ross; nieces and nephews, Amanda (Ron) Arsenault, Jamie Currie, Tammy Hawkes and Jason Hawkes; great-niece, Amy Campbell; and dear friends Tom and Marley. Besides his parents, Melvyn was predeceased by his wife Joan (Nemeth). In keeping with Melvyn's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 19, 2019 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448 with Pastor Brandon Lake officiating.
