Merrill "Vernon" Stanton

STANTON, Merrill “Vernon” – Age 62, of Westport, passed away in Digby General Hospital, Digby, on Thursday, October 28, 2026. Born in Digby, he was a son of Judy (Hartlen) Stanton and late Merrill Stanton. Vernon grew up in Freeport, Digby Co. Vernon was a hard worker, doing various jobs from lobster fishing, D.B. Kenny Fish Plant, and carpentry to name a few. He was a jokester. He loved to laugh and had the best of friends, especially Evan, Nadine and Corey who were there for Vernon, doing whatever they could. He enjoyed watching TV and movies. Vernon is survived by sisters, Patsy (Eugen Jauch) Stanton, Tiverton; Brenda Stanton, Marshalltown; Melinda (Mike Berry), Maine; Joyce (Alan Moore), Digby; Sharon Stanton, Yarmouth; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Vernon was predeceased by his father Merril Sr., and brother Gary. As per Vernon’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no services by request. Burial will take place at a later date in the Brookside Cemetery, Freeport, NS. Donations in Vernon’s memory can be made to the Westport Fire Department, VON or the Canadian Cancer Society.
