BECK, Michael Wayne - age 51 of Torbrook Mines, NS passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2015 in the Infirmary Site, QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Zweibruken, Germany, he was a son of Donald and Catherine (Boyle) Beck, Torbrook Mines. Mike served in the Canadian Armed Forces and later employed as an Education Assistant with the Halifax Regional School Board. He loved camping, coaching Special Olympics and refereeing hockey where he became a regular fixture at the Greenwood Gardens. Mike was proud of his Irish-German heritage and was always there to lend a hand. He will be sadly missed by all the lives he touched. Despite the numerous challenges he faced over the years, he always had a smile on his face and never burdened anyone. Unfortunately this last battle got the best of him. He is survived by his parents Donald and Cathy Beck, Torbrook Mines; his wife of 27 years Christine; his sisters, Karen (Tom) Baker, Meadowvale; Deanna (Scott) Beck-MacLean, Kentville; Krista Beck (Roy Mestdaugh), Brookside; his brother, Donny (Angela) Beck, Berwick; his nieces and nephews Jaime, Ryan, Danielle, Katie, Jordan, Samantha, Tyler, Brooke, Jacob, Jon, Angus and Ben and close family friend, Ryan D'Arcy. In keeping with Mike's wishes, visitation will be held 2-4PM and 7-9PM Friday, October 9, 2015 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448. Funeral mass, followed by a reception, will be held 11:00AM Saturday, October 10, 2015 in Queen of Heaven Chapel, 14 Wing Greenwood with Father Rory MacDonald and Father Craig Cameron officiating with cremation to follow the service.
