Obituary

Mildred "Millie" O'Neil passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2024, in Smiths Falls, Ontario. She was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on March 11, 1932.

Born in the Lawn market her playground was the Edinburgh Castles Esplenade. She attended Castlehill Primary School until 1940 when she was evacuated out of the city to Broomlee Camp. While there she made the great escape, she was homesick. The attempt failed as darkness came and she was scared. She saw a blue light in the distance and knocked on the door. It was a police station! Back to camp she went. She finally returned home at the end of the war. Upon finishing school, she trained at Alexander Martin as a fly dresser. While there she had the privilege of tying flies for King George VI

In November 1951, she sailed aboard the Empress of Canada to start a new life. That included joining the Canadian Airforce in 1952. She retired as a LAW instrument Tech 1958. Marriage and children were the next life course. She had four children, Steven, Susan, William and Patrica Anne.

A sports enthusiast, Millie enjoyed playing golf and curling, darts and cards. She was an avid sports fan, closely following hockey, baseball, curling and golf and was known as the best armchair coach ever. Millie was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star beginning with Annaval Chapter and amalgamated with Mayflower Chapter No.2.

Over the years, she gathered friends who became family, loving and being loved in return. She was the spark in our family, the light that gathered us close, sharing stories of her life that made us love her more each day.

She is survived by her daughters, Susan (Eugene) Meyer of Ontario and Patrica Anne (Jeff) of Alberta; daughter-in-law, Pam O'Neil of Utah; grandchildren, Shane, Christopher, James, Terry, Callum, Raelynn, Terry, James, Marissa, Chelsey, Sheamus and Ryjin; and 12 great grandchildren,

She was predeceased by her 11 brothers and sisters; and her sons, Steven and William.

All are welcome to attend a service in celebration of her life, followed by a reception that will take place at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 9 , in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448.
