Obituary

Mona Winnifred Martyn, 84, of Nictaux, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 4, 2025. Born in Truro, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Mervin and Hazel (Ward) Jones. Mona was predeceased by her loving husband John Martyn and her brother Eric Jones. Mona made her home in Nictaux for her entire life, where she built deep roots, lasting friendships, and a legacy of community service.

Mona is survived by her loving partner of 13 wonderful years, Harris Hiltz. She will be forever cherished by her sons, Stephen (Anne Fréchette) of Cole Harbour and Timothy (Nancy Powell), Nictaux. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Mackenzie, Samantha, and Anna, and a doting great-grandmother to Myha, Mel, Russell, and Sonny.

Mona and her late husband John Martyn operated Martyn's Mill for many years. She handled the books with precision and dedication, but never hesitated to roll up her sleeves and lend a hand out in the mill when needed. A true pillar of her community, Mona was a founding member of the Nictaux Firettes, serving faithfully for 55 years. She also enjoyed friendship and fun as a member of the Red Hatters. Mona was an avid traveller, from exploring the warm beaches that she loved, to the cooler landscapes of Alaska. Most recently, she fulfilled a lifelong dream by journeying to Ireland with Harris. She embraced every opportunity for adventure. She found joy in music and dancing, rarely missing a week of square dancing, and she attended every bluegrass festival she could. Mona was also a devoted member of the Nictaux Baptist Church, where her presence and spirit will be deeply missed. Mona will be remembered for her warm heart, her boundless energy, and her unwavering love for family, friends, and community. Her legacy will continue to live on in all who knew and loved her.

Celebration of Life for Mona will be announced at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to charity of choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Online guest book may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
