RAND, Mona Louise ~ age 90, of Morden, Kings Co., Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, May 2, 2026. Born in Berwick, Nova Scotia, on September 20, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Glenn and Thyra (West) Kelley.
Mona is survived by her son, Gregory (Belinda) Hamilton; daughters, Nadine (John) Stevens and Natalie (Fran) Gosselin; stepsons, Bruce (Ann) Rand and Ian Rand; sister, Bonnie Bailey; granddaughters, Jessica (Larry) Sommerville and Victoria (Vance) Hamilton; grandsons, Michael (Jeanette) Hamilton, Jeremy (Jess) Stevens, Adam (Courtney) Gosselin, and Kenneth Connors; step-grandchildren, Sean, Meaghan, Monica, Collin, Brittany, Harrison, Stephanie, and Jillian; as well as 14 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, Mona was predeceased by the two loves of her life, her husbands, George Hamilton and Harry Rand; grandson, David Hamilton; and stepson, Stephen Rand.
Mona began her professional career after attending MACK Business College in Kentville, where she trained as a legal secretary and worked in that field for many years. She later joined CFB Greenwood, where she was a highly respected secretary to several Base Commanders throughout her tenure. She was subsequently transferred to the Defence Research Establishment Atlantic, where she served as secretary to the Director of Technology until her retirement.
Following retirement, Mona and her husband Harry opened a successful quilting business, which they operated together for more than 20 years in Bridgewater and Berwick.
Mona’s greatest passion was quilting, as reflected in the more than 40 quilts she lovingly created and gifted to family and friends. Her creativity and keen eye for detail also found expression in many other hobbies, including cross-stitch, needlepoint, wreath-making, and decorating.
She was a faithful member of Aylesford United Church and a proud member of Mayflower Chapter No. 2 and Laurel Chapter No. 67, Order of the Eastern Star.
Mona will be lovingly remembered for her warmth, kindness, creativity, and devotion to her family. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will take place 6:30 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448, beginning with an Order of the Eastern Star Tribute at 6:00 p.m. Funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 7, in Aylesford United Church, 2414 Highway 1, Aylesford, with Rev. Webster Vhembo officiating with a reception to follow. Interment will take place in Aylesford Union Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully accepted from immediate family only.
