Obituary

CRAIG (Fish), Muriel Marie – 81, of Kingston, NS, passed away June 26, 2021 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, NS. Born in Canterbury, NB, on February 17, 1940, she was the first of nine children born to John and Violet (Varney) Fish.

Muriel is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Terrance Paul Craig, and her three children: Kimberly (Peter) Dykshoorn, Sherwood Park, AB; Michael (Vicky) Craig, Halifax, NS; and Starlene (James) Buchanan, Ottawa, ON. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Muriel is survived by her sisters Joan (Dan) Lockhart, Peggy (Robert) McLaughlin, Laurie (Danny) Chase, and brother Randy (Marie) Fish. She was predeceased by her parents, as well as siblings Donna Nicholson, and Darlene, Clayton, and Gary Fish.

Muriel worked as a telephone operator then supervisor at various telephone companies, including NBTel (5 years), Maritime Tel & Tel (25 years), and Alberta Government Telephones (3 years). Muriel was Vice-President of the 3500 member Atlantic Communications & Technical Workers Union (AC&TWU). She supported her MT&T co-workers in contract negotiations and won 19 out of 20 arbitration cases.

Muriel served her community on the Kingston Village Commission for 3 terms, a total of 9 years, focusing on beautification and improvement projects such as the Visitor Information Centre, Stronach Park, downtown Kingston, and many flower gardens, water fountains, and trees. An avid volunteer, Muriel could often be found organizing and cooking for community dinners, church breakfasts, quilting and selling tickets, and helping the breakfast program at Kingston and District Elementary School.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Muriel's life will be held at the Kingston United Baptist Church on Saturday the 17 th of July at 2 PM.  Due to Covid-19 restrictions, seating inside the church is limited to 75 family and friends by invitation only. Masking, social distancing, and hand sanitizing are required.  If you wish to attend the service in the church parking lot, you can hear the service on your car radio at 91.1 FM. For those unable to attend there will be a live stream of the service which you may watch by choosing the 'live stream' option at the top of the funeral home's website beginning at 1:55 p.m. ADT. Donations in Muriel's memory may be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation or a charity of choice.  Family flowers only please. Interment will follow at a later date.
